One thing that's become a constant in my life since I began writing online -- even before I was doing it professionally -- is a constant stream of questions from young women in the position I once found myself: Young, passionate, suddenly made unconfident by the tense job market, and looking for a sense of direction in a world that had always provided one up to that point.
This is a great advice piece, and not just for women who plan to work in the arts/media-centered fields. I think it's helpful to remember that nothing you ever want to accomplish can be done without believing in yourself, as corny as that sounds. Of course, believing in yourself is immeasurably helped by having the skills to back up that confidence, so it's important not to discount the work it will take to reach your peak. Being a young person in the world we live in today, there is really not a whole lot to lose by finding what you're good at and turning it into something that might eventually lead you into the career you desire, and actually make you money. If you love it, that's even better.
